ST. MARY’S CHURCH, ELSING
Grade I listed.
Built by Sir Hugh Hastings, c.1340 is one of the finest examples of the Decorated Period in Norfolk. The pillar-less nave, at nearly 40ft is one of the widest of any parish church. In 2002 the PCC raised £40,000 for major roof repairs.

The Octagonal font has a remarkable canopy with pinnacled buttresses and is thought to be the oldest of its kind in existence.

Figures in the stained glass windows date from the 14C.
A magnificent brass to the founder, who died in 1347, shows small representations of some of his pallbearers, including Edward III, on either side of the armoured figure.
In almost any other county, this splendid church would be far better known.

The church is normally open between the hours,  11am & 5pm.
