This child-friendly service is to support the Salvation Army Christmas Present appeal. We're delighted that the two schools in the Thurton Benefice will be supporting us with prayers and poems (or maybe something else) prepared by the children. Could you help us make Christmas special for those families who may have little or nothing under the tree for their children on Christmas morning? If you’d like to donate to this Salvation Army Project and make a child’s Christmas special this year, Read On!The Salvation Army asks for gifts of NEW, UNWRAPPED toys, books, games or gift tokens (for children aged 0-16 years). Unwrapped because they prepare gift packs for identified families. Monetary donations can be made too, and any gift aid on donations will be passed to the Salvation Army too. Donations can be brought to the church service on the morning or taken, during the week beforehand, to either Alpington or Thurton School. Afterwards, the Bergh Apton team will arrange for them to be taken to the Salvation Army Norwich depot where the gifts will be wrapped before distribution to those in need. Here are a few gift ideas: • 0-3 years: dolls, teddy bears, cot mobiles, baby clothes, bath toys, puzzles • 3-5: dolls and action figures, cars, lorries, colouring sets, pencils, crayons, books, puzzles • 5-9: educational games & toys, stationery (colouring sets, pencils, crayons, school sets), books, puzzles, wordsearch, crosswords • 9-12: games and toys, stationery, books, t-shirts, hair accessories, gloves, scarves, hats • 13-16: books, make-up and toiletries (please try to ensure non-allergic ingredients if possible), gloves, scarves, hats, t-shirts, hair accessories and gift vouchers.Nearly-new toys in good condition can also be donated for sale in Salvation Army shops to raise funds for their valuable work
To herald the advent season, this popular annual event features the choir singing traditional Norwegian carols - and maybe some English ones too, as well as other songs. They have been rehearsing for their visit since the summer, and there will be a spot of audience participation.Refreshments will be served at the end of the concert when there will be an opportunity to chat with members of the choir. There is free parking next to the church but do wear outdoor shoes - and this is rural Norfolk, so a torch might come in handy, although we do have floodlights in the carpark.
