Marshland Benefice fundraising Christian Aid Week

Once again we are approaching Christian Aid Week, when we try to focus on
those in many parts of the world – more than ever this year – whose lives are
a daily fight with loss, poverty and uncertainty. It is, surely, an opportunity to
reflect on all that we have and enjoy in our own corner of God's Universe.
Christian Aid tell the story of Aline in Burundi, who endured an early marriage
which ended in abuse and violence. Separated from her six children, she slept
on the the streets, determined to find a way to turn her life around. Christian
Aid helped to transform her life.

May I encourage YOU to support our Benefice-wide effort, by attending the
Coffee Morning from 10 – 12 noon on Saturday 18th May? We need a
stallholder with green fingers to run the garden stall and cake bakers and
helpers with refreshments on the day. There will be a book stall, raffle (prizes
needed) and any suggestions for stalls or help will be welcome. PLEASE may
we join together to meet one another from one end of the Benefice to the other
and raise money for this worthy cause.

Any contributions to me, Barbara Partington, at 33, Newgate, Kirby Cane.

Venue
Raveningham Hall
Address

As last year, I will be facilitating a reflection group through Lent, which will run for five evening sessions leading up towards Holy Week, and will begin on Friday 23 February. These sessions will be hosted at Raveningham Hall between 7.30pm (prompt) and 9pm, with my gratitude to Sir Nicholas Bacon for hosting us – we will be using the wonderful lounge area above the garages in the old stable block (now the estate offices).

During these five weeks, we will engage with a range of beautiful and evocative images from five specific stages on my sabbatical journey in 2023, along the Camino Frances from St Jean Pied-de-Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. As we explore key waymarkers and places of significance on the Camino and what they can teach us, we will reflect on the importance of significant points in our own lives and how they might inform our life journey as well as through Lent.

Our themes each week will be:

Friday 23 February
Beginnings
Basque Country & The Navarre

Wednesday 28 February
Maturing and strengthening
La Rioja & Castile

Wednesday 6 March
The Wide Open Plains
Castile & León

Wednesday 13 March
Going again
León into Galicia

Wednesday 20 March
Endings
To Santiago de Compostela

No theological knowledge or preparatory reading is required – just yourselves, and a willingness to listen, chat, explore, reflect and laugh! Tea and coffee will be available.

Let me know by email or by phone if you would like to come along.

Let's Lunch During Lent

Friday 23 February 2024, Friday 15 March 2024 at for 2 hours
Venue
Address

In the past, we have held 3-4 'Lent Lunches' a year to raise funds for the annual Bishop's Appeal. These are informal, simple meals, usually a bowl of soup and bread, plus some fruit. There is no set charge - people just make a donation.

This year's Lent Appeal aims to raise enough money to provide 25 water tanks for Ordinand's Homes at Newton Theological College in Papua New Guinea. Full information is on the Diocesan website, www.DofN.org/Lent.

The first of these Lent Lunches will be held Friday, 23rd Feb. 12:30 PM. If you are able to attend, please let Miranda know in advance on 07766 356 128.

Another Lunch will be held on Friday, 15th March at 12:30. Please e-mail Clare Seppings at: [email protected].
