We think the altar clothes were made at the time of the Victorian refurbishment of the church and erection of the tower. 

To celebrate the repairs to the tower, we thought some repair to the altar clothes was long over due. 

A group of 10 from the village have been meeting monthly to progress our ideas for a new green frontal. The old set had long since turned from green to a muddy khaki! Each participant has been working on their own 20cm square, which  will embellish the drop from the altar top, all backed on green velvet. With careful handling, one of the group managed to rescue the original heavily embroidered cross motif to be reattached to the front. The work is slow and fiddly; and the builders have finished long before the stitchers, but hopefully the cloth will last another 100 years if we take time and care.
