Our Parish Profile

The village of Lydham lies geographically at the heart of our Benefice. It has a mix of private and social housing, with 85 households, and a population of about 220. Holy Trinity church is situated in the centre of the village, opposite the organic wholefoods shop and the motor engineers. The Village Hall plays a central role in village life, holding a weekly market which sells fruit & vegetables, meat, bread, cheese, and various crafts. The Village Hall also hosts several local groups on a weekly basis, from Cubs and Scouts to exercise classes. A series of annual events takes place throughout the year, organised by the hall committee. These include a quiz, a Christmas craft fair, a jumble sale and a summer fun day. Alongside agriculture and forestry work, employment can be found in motor engineering and metal fabricating. There is a wood burning stove manufacturer situated just outside the village.

Our church is currently running under the Festival Church model, with four or five well attended services a year. Remembrance Sunday is marked at our village war memorial followed by a service. We host Benefice services, and mark other dates, particularly Trinity Sunday. We are delighted that there will be a wedding held at Holy Trinity next summer. Our monthly prayer meeting seeks God’s will for Lydham and the wider Benefice, with a mission focus to bring the Kingdom to the people of Lydham. Cafe Church is held monthly in the Village Hall. It is well attended by people from across the Benefice and beyond. Breakfast is served, and lively, engaging talks and conversation enjoyed. The fellowship and encouragement that this monthly meeting provides is highly valued. In December, the Benefice carol singing group brings the Christmas message to the homes of the village.

A management committee keeps the fabric of the church and the churchyard in good order. This entails insurance, boiler maintenance, cleaning, repairs and upkeep of the churchyard. We are financially sound, and have enough money in hand to cover these commitments.

Our hope for the new incumbent is that they will join us in seeking God’s will for worship in Lydham, and that through both fresh expressions of church and traditional services, Jesus’ love will be evident in our community, attracting new worshippers, young and old.
