A message from the foodbank: "Thank you to everyone for very generous donations for the Christmas season. Our joint efforts helped to make Christmas a joyful time for people less fortunate than ourselves. You might like to know that in December we gave out 2.15tonnes of food, had 74 clients and fed 249 people of whom 111 were children."At St Barnabas Church, we are pleased to support the foodbank in Pershore. Please drop any donations you have to the box in the church porch. The church is open Mon-Fri during school hours.Thank you.
We were grateful to Pershore Hire Centre who have provided us with heat blowers to blast the chilly air in the church. This meant that we were reasonably warm at our carols by candlelight service on 15th December. Over 50 villagers joined us for this traditional service singing well known carols and hearing the familiar Christmas story told from the bible readings.Mulled Wine and Mince pies were served after the service and it was lovely to see so many stay to join in this time of fellowship at this special time of the year.
Our second Christmas Bazaar was held on Saturday 30th November. Despite the coldness of the day and the fact that the heating is not working int he church, we were delighted to welcome lots of people who came along to have a go on the tombola, buy raffle tickets, browse Christmas stalls and enjoy a warm cup of tea/coffee and sample the delicious homemade cakes, biscuits and mince pies that were on offer. A lovely atmosphere prevailed with Chrismtas music in the back ground, candles lit (for added warmth) and lively conversation. We are delighted to announce that this event has raised almost £300 which will be put towards a new heating system which we hope to have installed sometime early in the new year.
Once again Pershore Foodbank plan to give Christmas Hampers and Children's chocolate bags to people in Pershore and the surrounding villages who for whatever reason find themselves in difficulties. As in previous years we plan to start giving these out from the beginning of December. We have a lovely team of volunteers who are primed to help make up hampers in late November. I know it seems an odd request but could you encourage your churches/schools to have your, no doubt generous donations, by the middle of December at the latest otherwise our volunteer team simply struggle to cope. They have requested the following items:Christmas Cakes, Biscuits, Sweets and Chocolates, Tinned Ham & Salmon, Christmas puddings, Chocolate money, Tinned Custard, Mince Pies and any other Christmas treats that may be donated. We have a box in our porch into which you can place your donations. this is emptied regularly and taken to the foodbank.Thank you as always for your generosity.
