beyond words
Meditation is an ancient form of prayer. It goes beyond words, images, thoughts and feelings. It leads us into stillness, silence and simplicity, allowing us to rest in the presence of God. Even in our modern busy lives this is possible.
The aim of Meditation in the Christian tradition is to allow God's mysterious and silent presence that is within us all to become the reality which gives meaning, shape and purpose to everything we are and do. The World Community for Christian Meditation is inspired by the vision of John Main a Benedictine monk who revived an ancient form of contemplative prayer and made it available to all.
The Axbridge Meditation Group welcomes you to share the teaching and practice of Christian Meditation in silence and friendship. We are open to any denomination, or none.
We meet just before 8pm each Tuesday evening in the Axbridge Church Room.

Contact Loraine or Andy Goddard on 01934 732007 to find out more.

Welcome to the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist, Axbridge

United with St. Leonard, Shipham and St. Michael and All Angels, Rowberrow.

Whether you come to worship, or to enjoy the peace, or to marvel at the beauty of the building, welcome to Axbridge Church.

How to find us

We are in the centre of Axbridge overlooking the north east side of the town square.

The Church Steps
The Square
Axbridge
BS26 2AP

Tel: 01934 732261

email: [email protected]

The Church Rooms are opposite the church entrance, a few steps down from the top of the steps from The Square. There is level access from the public highway to the Church Rooms but note that the 'highway' in this case is The Church Steps.

Axbridge Church itself is not the easiest to access because of the steps that lead up from The Square. Please see the Church Information -> Access link if you find steps difficult! We have a plan to provide level access - see the details.

There is limited 1 hour parking in The Square; note that this is regularly patrolled, including on Sunday. There are two car parks, in Old Church Road and Moorland Street, signposted from The Square.

Safeguarding Information

The parish of Axbridge is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Bath & Wells’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
