To help us celebrate and show off the new lighting in the church, the Swan Singers are presenting a concert of music on the themes of darkness and light. As dusk falls, the first half of the programme will feature works as varied as the heart-breaking When David Heard by Thomas Tomkins from the 16th century to the 20th century motet Valiant-for-Truth by Vaughan Williams. In the second half of the programme, as the lights of the church enhance the glorious architecture and highlight previously hidden details, the choir will lighten the mood with music by composers including Thomas Tallis and Eric Whitacre, ending with the very appropriate eight-part anthem Hail Gladdening Light by the 19th century composer Charles Wood.
