Church of England Diocese of Bath & Wells Stratton on the Fosse

About Us

St. Vigor's Church Stratton-on-the-Fosse forms a benefice with St. John's in nearby Chilcompton. We are "one church with two buildings" and together we enjoy a range of Sunday and mid-week services for all ages from the Book of Common Worship, Book of Common Prayer and a Celtic Service once a month at St. John's. There are also two clubs - Jigsaw for 3-11 year olds and BUZZ for 11-18 year olds - who meet on Sundays, 10:30am at St. John's during term time except the second Sunday when St. John's has an All Age service in church. We also have Messy Church once a month on the fourth Sunday and Powerhouse, for 11-18 year olds, is held in St. John's Church Hall on Sundays at 6:00pm.

The villages and the surrounding area are served by the Church of England VA Primary School of St. Vigor and St. John. The learning community is made up of seven classes, one class for each year group, and The Mill Nursery that is based on the school site. The staff and Governors strive to provide the children with a warm, secure and stimulating environment that promotes Christian values.

We run a number of homegroups, mission, pastoral and social activities and amongst others, support four main charities - CMS, Christian Aid, The Leprosy Mission and Tearfund. St. John's has a superb church hall that is used by church, community and business alike and is available for hire. You would be most welcome to join us at any of our services or events.

Currently we are in a period of Vacancy, which means there is no Rector (Vicar) in place and The Rectory's telephone number is no longer in use. However, the vacancy has been advertised and the closing date for applications was the 27th of May. Interviews are taking place in June with a view to our new Rector joining us some time in Autumn.

All services, events and groups continue as usual and there is a strong leadership team in place, so please do not hesitate to visit or contact us. This includes any help you may require with regard to Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals.
