Celebrating Nature at Kittisford May 2025

It was Rogation Sunday, the bells of St Nicholas at Kittisford were ringing out and what better way to reflect on our natural surroundings and ask the harvest to be blessed than to spend time in the glorious setting of Kittisford House garden. The sun shone and thankfully our host, Perdita had a ready supply of battered sun hats for the congregation to wear. For this was no ordinary church service at Kittisford. We were outside, enjoying all nature had to offer; it was a bit like an Italian summer’s afternoon. Rev Andy led the service and we were treated to singing by the Village Festival Choir and some thoughtful reflections from Mark, the gardener at Kittisford House. We looked skywards as Nick Benge read Ted Hughes poem, “The Swift” and then were entertained by the Open the Book team as they acted out the lesson “Calling the Disciples”. It was wonderful to see so many people there from the whole community and Benefice.

Afterwards we were treated to a magical evening of pizzas on the terrace. A huge thankyou to Tansy who led the mammoth pizza making, her pizza making team and for everyone who came and supported us. We made over 60 pizzas and raised £760 towards keeping St Nicholas afloat.
