Welcome to St James Church, Over Darwen. We're a friendly group of all ages, some of whom have been worshiping at St James for many decades and others who have made Darwen their home more recently. Our services are relaxed and friendly, and everyone is welcome!
On a Sunday all ages are together in church. We look at the Bible together, worship God through song, and pray. Once per month we celebrate Holy Communion on a Sunday. On Tuesdays the service is more reflective and quieter. We usually celebrate Holy Communion at our Tuesday service, and a simple soup lunch is served afterwards.
Living out our faith during the week is really important for us at St James. We run a food bank from Ash Grove shops on a Saturday morning, offer activities for families in school holidays, and work closely with St James CE Primary Academy. We also have other activities that will be starting again soon.
St James is the oldest place of worship in Darwen and we are proud to still be here for the local community.
The parish of Over Darwen St James is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Blackburn’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services
