Getting here

Built in 1857 as a chapel to the Boys' Grammar School and Workhouse, Christ Church is a beautiful example of the Arts and Crafts movement. The stained glass by Shrigley and Hunt is particularly noteworthy. Now serving a parish of 15000 the congregation is younger than the average, lively and outward looking. Worship is centred on the Eucharist, where all who are baptised are welcome to receive communion. A large Sunday School meets each week, with many other opportunities for children, young adults and adults to meet together. Social activities range from Scouts and Guides to a choir to a wine tasting group! We run a winter Homeless Shelter offering hot food and accommodation to anyone who needs it. This is open seven nights a week.

We enjoy baptising a very large number of children and adults every year, and prospective brides and grooms are always made very welcome. These services can be booked with us at the church on a Tuesday night at 6pm (no appointment necessary).

We worship God in the beauty of holiness and enjoy fellowship with each other. Visitors are always welcome.
