An exciting community event will be happening in July.............

This year 2024 marks the 350th anniversary of Cawthorne school and we will be celebrating this in Abbeystead style. So watch this space for further details.

A big thank you to Alison for her hard work in setting up the Quiz night

and also to Ben for controlling the rabble.

Not forgetting the delicious food supplied by the brilliant cookers.

A cracking night much enjoyed by all.

Abbeystead Supper Run

The Supper Run returns this summer and it was a great success last year. The course is a 4 mile run or walk on Thursday 23rd May. Mobile Library

The library will be coming on to The Lee on the following Fridays (every 3 weeks) approximately 13.30pm:

Whist & Dominoes

W&D is a monthly event, every 3rd Wednesday. All monies raised are for the upkeep of the Parish Hall. The group would also like to add, that everyone is welcome and in particular those new to dominoes and whist.

If anyone is interested, there is another Whist & Domino event at Whitechapel village hall (Church Lane, PR3 2EP behind St James Primary school) on the 15th March. Entry is £8 and starts at 6.45pm, hotpot will be served at 7.00pm no booking and required all are welcome.

Chess Club

From beginners to Grand Masters, there's a class for you.... Held at Garstang Arts Centre (01995 606648), every Thursday 1.30pm-3.30pm.

Partners In Environment Youth Group the next meeting is to help Dunsop Bridge school with tidying up their school playground. This will be happening on the 24th March 10.00am-2.00pm. Please see their facebook page for further details.

It is open to secondary school aged children. Please let Helen Foster know if anyone is interested in joining the group.

Term Time - Every Wednesday. Mother and toddlers are welcome to join the Abbeystead nursery and reception on the school playing field for forest/outdoor sessions (whatever the weather!)

Lancaster’s Spring Market (Friday 15th March)

On Friday 15 March from 10am to 5pm Lancaster’s market square will be bustling with local food producers, vegetable seedlings and flowers, community food projects, music and local craftspeople.

The Spring Market is the first of four seasonal markets coordinated by FoodFutures every year. The markets celebrate our surrounding environment and the diversity of produce the different seasons bring. The Spring Market will celebrate the lengthening days and the start of a new growing season with local food, crafts and music.

Great British Spring Clean (From Friday 15th to Sunday 31st March)

This year’s Great British Spring Clean (GBSC) will be held between the dates of 15th March – 31st March 2024.

If you would like to organise a volunteer litter pick either individually or as a group, then Lancaster City Council’s Public Realm team can provide you with the equipment and GBSC 2024 bags to do so.

Equipment and bags can be collected from Morecambe Town Hall between 9am and 1pm Monday to Friday. Please make an appointment to arrange collection by emailing [email protected]

For any planned group events please email [email protected] and let them know the date, time and location then they will help to publicise it.

Public Realm will also arrange for collection of the filled bags, placed by a public bin.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Advice and Information Event (Saturday 16th March)

Just outside the district, there’s an opportunity for anyone with Rheumatoid Arthritis to get advice from medical professionals and share experiences with others. From 10.30am to 3pm on Saturday 16th March, Barton Grange Garden Centre (Garstang Road, Brock, PR3 0BT) will host an information and advice event that is free to attend. Lancaster Skill Share (Sunday 17th March)

This year a series of workshops will create the opportunity for local people, who have developed skills in business and voluntary work, to pass on their tips and techniques. On Sunday 17th March between 2-4pm there will be a laptop revive workshop at the Sustainability Hub in Lancaster. If you have an old or under performing laptop, the workshop will look at how it can be made to run faster and more reliably. The workshop will look at both hardware and software changes you might make. Laptops are welcome to be brought along.

The workshops are all about using resources efficiently: maintaining, preserving, and repairing to avoid throwing things away and consuming unnecessarily. Each workshop will be led by one or two experienced people, but it is hoped everyone who comes along will share their skills and experiences. North Lancs Mapping Nature and Communities Roadshow (Monday 25th March)

Lancaster Town Hall will host a roadshow for residents to quality assure the people and nature offer that is part of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy led by Lancashire County Council. The roadshow takes place between 9.45am and 12.30pm on Monday 25th March. The event is free to attend but places must be booked in advance online.
