We loved the beautiful ancient symbolism Bishop Joe used of making the first half of their confirmation promises facing west, where the sun sets - rejecting the devil, renouncing evil, repenting of sins. Then for the second half of the promises, they faced the front - or east - and the cross, and promised to turn to Christ, to submit to him as Lord and to come to Christ, the way, the truth and the life.
