Harvest Festival: Time is running out to donate items of chocolate, wines, spirits, household goods etc. These items together with tinned and dried foods may still be delivered to the Vicar’s Vestry or brought next week to the service. Please also sign up at the back of church if you are able to bring anything to the Harvest Jacob’s Join lunch! Everyone is welcome to join us for lunch and Harvest fun.

Bishop’s Harvest Appeal: The Harvest Appeal this year is earmarked to support the Bishop of Multan’s (central Pakistan), literacy programme. There are envelopes at the back of church clearly marked ‘Bishop’s Appeal’ which can be placed in the same box as the raffle ticket stubs. Grateful thanks.

St Francis of Assisi: On Friday the 4th October, the Church celebrated the life and ministry of St Francis. He was well known in Assisi for his love of parties and celebrations. But after a long illness and a spell in the army he began to grow weary of his energetic lifestyle and made a pilgrimage to Rome. He was greatly affected by the beggars that he met in the city. He returned to Assisi and while working on a Church heard the reading from Matthew chapter 10 in which Jesus asks his disciples to leave all behind them. Francis understood these words to be directly spoken to him. He formed a group of followers who called themselves the ‘Friars Minor’ and they quickly developed a religious order. As the order spread and Francis became unwell, he wrote a ‘Rule of Life’. This rule of life is still followed by many in religious orders and lay folk as well, who call themselves ‘The Franciscans’. They follow St Francis’ example by striving to love Christ who is particularly present in the least of our brothers and sisters, especially in the poor and the disenfranchised.

Please remember in your prayers: Elsie Matthias and her family. Elsie is very poorly in hospital. Also pray for Jeff Chambers, Katie, Brian Brown, Mark Price, Debbie, Michael Carthy, Rev Jane Everett, Paul Sumner, Sandra Pratt, Michael, Karen, Jean Atkinson, Chris Kelsall and Elaine Clarke. And we remember the family Alwyn Thwaites whose funeral is due to take place.
