Easter Celebrations: What a celebration we had after the Easter services on Sunday! Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to make it such a joyful occasion. Special thanks to David and Joanne for organising the gathering.

Statement from the Bishop of Blackburn following the death of Pope Francis:

“It seems fitting that a man who taught the world about mercy should die in Easter Week.  Pope Francis was a man who believed passionately in the Gospel and helped countless people to grow in their understanding of the saving work of Jesus Christ. He also knew what it meant to put the Gospel into practice and was a fearless voice for justice and for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable.   Throughout his ministry he made a stand for the value and preciousness of all human life and right until the last hours of his life he was speaking up for migrant communities and asylum seekers. In the coming weeks the prayers of the Diocese of Blackburn will be with the Roman Catholic Church and in particular with our partner dioceses of Salford, Liverpool and Lancaster as prayerful discernment begins to elect a successor. But today is a day to give thanks for a remarkable life of Christian service. May Pope Francis rest in peace and rise in glory.”

Father in heaven, we praise your name for all who have finished this life loving and trusting you,
for the example of their lives, the life and grace you gave them and the peace in which they rest.
We praise you today for your servant Francis and for all that you did through him.
Meet us in our sadness and fill our hearts with praise and thanksgiving,
for the sake of our risen Lord, Jesus Christ.

Into your hands, O merciful Saviour, we commend your servant Francis. Acknowledge, we pray, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Enfold him in the arms of your mercy,  in the blessed rest of everlasting peace and in the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.

Please also remember in your prayers: Martyn Westby, Brian Brown, Louise Gorley, Mark Price, Michael Carthy, Paul Sumner, Sandra Pratt, Michael, Chris Kelsall, Tracey Ashworth, Philip Wayman, Maureen Hardman and Chris Cousins. We also remember the families of Charles Evans and Frank Wetherley whose funerals are due to take place.
