Transfiguration: On Wednesday of this week, 6th August, Christian Churches across the globe will celebrate the Festival of the Transfiguration of our Lord. It is a profound moment recorded in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and echoed in the Second Epistle of Peter. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain to pray, and there, He is transfigured—His face shines like the sun, and His clothes become dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appear beside Him, representing the Law and the Prophets and a voice from the cloud declares Jesus as God's beloved Son.
The Transfiguration reveals to us Jesus' divine nature and serves as a powerful sign of hope and glory. It stands as one of the five great milestones in His earthly ministry—alongside His baptism, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. On the mountaintop, heaven touches earth and Jesus stands as the bridge between the divine and the human.
Let this moment remind us to seek God’s presence in our own “mountaintop moments” — those times set apart for prayer, reflection, and encountering Him more deeply. In the stillness, when we intentionally ‘draw near’ to God, we open our hearts to hear His voice more clearly — a voice that calls us beloved, a voice that leads us in truth. And let us always be ready to be transformed by the glory of Christ. Just as the disciples witnessed His radiance and were forever changed, so too are we invited to be renewed — in our minds, our hearts and our walk with Him. His light reveals, restores, and equips us to carry that same light into the world.
May we live as people who have seen His glory — not only with our eyes, but with faith — and may that vision shape the way we speak, serve and love.
The Bereavement Journey: Beginning on 2nd September, St Nic’s & St Peter’s have been invited to join Emmanuel Church which is running this short course for the second time. It is an award-winning series of films and discussion groups that gently guides people bereaved at any time through the most common aspects of grief and bereavement, enabling them to process the implications for themselves and discern next steps. It is suitable for people of any faith or none. It may be for you or you may wish to come along with someone you know who needs a bit of support. Please speak to the Vicar for more details.
Please also remember in your prayers: David Jackson, Martyn Westby, Brian Brown, Pauline Brookes, Louise Gorley, Michael Carthy, Paul Sumner, Sandra Pratt, Chris Kelsall, Carole Pilling, Tracey Ashworth, Philip Wayman, Joanne Mallin, Harvey, Maureen Baines, Jan Risley. We also remember Alec Pratt, Mary McLellan and Wayne Mallin whose funerals are due to take place.
