Advent Devotionals: Booklets are now available at the back of church and will guide us through Advent with a daily reflection. Rather than take a booklet you may wish to download the diocesan ‘Fruitful’ app, from your app store and receive the reflections daily on your smartphone?
Christmas Fair: It’s almost upon us! Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has already donated such generous gifts. Your kindness and support are truly appreciated. We are still in need of a few more bottles, chocolates and quality new gifts for the prize draw, together with homemade crafts and home baking on the day! We now have ample Christmas decorations for our stall, thank you. Grateful thanks as well to all those working behind the scenes to make this a Fair to remember.
Christ the King: Christ the King: The purpose of this festival today helps to deepen the awareness of the final end of all things in the triumph of Christ. It brings the cycle of the liturgical year to an end, but looks forward to its turning again on Advent Sunday. The spirituality of this festival must never be forgotten or understated. No one recognised this more than Henri Nouwen in his Sabbatical Journey: "on the last Sunday of the liturgical year, Christ is presented to us as the mocked King on the Cross as well of the King of the universe. The greatest humiliation and the greatest victory are both shown to us in today's liturgy. It is important to look at this humiliated and victorious Christ before we start the new liturgical year with the celebration of Advent. All through the year we have to stay close to the humiliation as well as to the victory of Christ, because we are called to live both in our own daily lives."
Save the date! Join us on Sunday 7th December at 10.45am for our celebration of St Nicholas’ Patronal Festival. We are delighted to welcome Bishop Philip, who will be preaching and presiding at this special service. This joyful occasion is one of the highlights of our church year and we hope it will be made even brighter by wonderful news from our Christmas Fair the day before. Let’s fill the church and celebrate together on the 7th!
Prayers: Please also pray for, Brian Brown, Harvey Stansfield, Hannah, Carol Walters, Muriel, Debbie, Joyce Bussell, Maureen Hardman, Paul Gosling, Janet Campbell, Fred Thornton and Sarah Taylor. We also remember Ron Jarrett, Pamela Spencer and Maureen Baines whose funerals are due to take place.
