Bishop Philip North: We are delighted to welcome +Philip of Blackburn to our 10.45 service this morning as we celebrate our Patronal Festival of St Nicholas.

2026 is a milestone year for us — our Centenary as a Diocese! It’s a wonderful moment to look back with gratitude for all that God has done in and through His people here in Lancashire since William Temple founded the Diocese in 1926. It’s also a fresh invitation to commit ourselves once again to mission, ministry and the joyful service of Jesus Christ. We’ve got an exciting year ahead, with plenty of major events in the pipeline — including our very own Mission Weekend on September 11th–13th. Mark your calendars now! Planning and prayer are already underway as we discern how best to bless our community and create opportunities for people to encounter the good news of the gospel. More details to come, but for now, get ready for a year of celebration, faith, and mission!

Christmas Fair: ‘Generous beyond words’ is how someone described the gifts that were donated for this year’s fair. This newsletter is being produced before the outcomes are known so we’ll be sure to update you next week. Suffice to say an enormous thank you to everyone who was involved in planning and organising, buying and ordering, making phone calls, selling raffle tickets and collecting prizes for weeks and weeks leading up to the event. Team St Nic’s, led by Joanne and David and the Café Team, led by Judith have done it again! Well done and thank you for your dedication to deliver for the church and for the community.

Christmas Wishes: Why not consider sending a Christmas greeting to the whole church family on our specially prepared ‘Christmas greeting notice sheet’ instead of sending Christmas Cards? You might even donate the cost of your cards to church(?) The sheet will be printed on 20th December. Please jot down your message, email it, hand it to the Vicar or pop it through the Vicarage letter box. Verbal requests may get overlooked!

Prayers: Please also pray for, Brian Brown, Harvey Stansfield, Hannah, Carol Walters, Muriel, Debbie, Paul Gosling, Helen Willott, Paul Sumner and Sarah Taylor. We also remember Fred Thornton, Pamela Spencer, Ivy Roskell, David Bunnell and Maureen Baines whose funerals are due to take place.
