We are delighted to welcome the Revd Kathryn Sperring, who will be preaching and presiding at our services this morning. Kathryn is the Assistant Curate at St John’s, Little Thornton. Her curacy is drawing to a close and she will soon be moving on to pastures new — although exactly where that may be is still to be discerned. Please hold Kathryn, Trevor and the family in your prayers as they prepare for this time of transition and seek God’s guidance for the next chapter in their lives.
The Presentation of Christ- in the Temple is celebrated forty days after Christmas and is a quiet yet profound moment in the story of Jesus’ early life. Marking Mary and Joseph’s faithful observance of Jewish law, this event reveals both humility and revelation: the infant Jesus is brought to the Temple, not as a king in splendour, but as a child entrusted to God. There, the aged Simeon and the prophet Anna recognize what others cannot yet see — that this child is the long-awaited light for all nations. This feast, often known as Candlemas, is rich with symbolism. Light plays a central role, reminding us that Christ enters the world’s ordinary spaces to illuminate hearts, homes and communities. It is a celebration of hope, faithfulness and patient expectation fulfilled. As we gather, we are invited to share in that same joy: welcoming Christ anew, carrying His light forward and recognizing the sacred in simple, everyday acts of devotion.
Lent Study Course – Save the dates: Wednesday 25th February, for five consecutive weeks, 4.30 pm at St David’s Church on Larkholme Lane. Parking isn’t great, so we recommend car sharing as far as possible, using St Nic’s as a meeting point. No need to sign up, but please see the Vicar if you need a lift.
Bishop Philip's new ‘Knowing Jesus’ course has five sessions. The series will help us to know about Jesus as we seek to understand more about who he is, what he has come to do and how he sets us free. It will also help us to know Jesus as we explore what to means to be in a deeper relationship with him and to offer our whole lives to him. The sessions are, The Ascended Jesus, The Sending Jesus, The Suffering Jesus, The Servant Jesus and The Triumphant Jesus.
Prayers: Please pray for Dorothy Angel, Anthony, Jeff Chambers, Harvey Stansfield, Hannah, Carol Walters, Muriel, Paul Sumner, Carol Newton, Debbie and Maureen Hardman. We also remember the lives and families of Martyn Westby, Mildred Ross, David Morley, Patricia Kettle and Lesley Christian whose funerals are due to take place.
