Today: We celebrate Mothering Sunday, a day when we give thanks for the love, care and guidance of mothers and those who have been like mothers to us. It is a time to appreciate the many quiet acts of kindness, patience and strength that shape our lives. For many, this is a joyful day filled with gratitude and happy memories. For others, it can bring more complex emotions — remembering mothers who are no longer with us, longing for relationships that were hoped for, or carrying the pain of loss.
Wherever this day finds you, you are held in our thoughts and prayers. May our church be a place of comfort, gratitude, and compassion for all. Let us give thanks for the love we have known, support one another in our different journeys, and remember that God’s care surrounds us all.
Easter Day: Please add your name to the sign-up sheet at the back of church if you’re coming for lunch — and if you’re able to bring something to share for the buffet, do pop that down too. We would love you to be part of it — and don’t forget to start designing your Easter bonnet! Come and celebrate the joy of Easter with us! And if you are able to donate any chocolate/Easter eggs for prizes, they will be gratefully received in the Vicar’s vestry!!
Lent Study 3 “Knowing Jesus” In the third session of our Lent Course Knowing Jesus, we reflected on the Suffering Jesus and the challenging question of why suffering exists.
The Christian faith teaches that suffering was never God’s intention but is part of living in a fallen and broken world. Rather than remaining distant from human pain, God enters into it through Jesus, who experiences grief, anguish and the suffering of the cross. Through his resurrection, however, suffering does not have the final word. By taking suffering upon himself, Jesus transforms it and ultimately overcomes it.
The story of Stephen in Acts 6–7 reminds us that suffering for Christ is not meaningless. Like Jesus, Stephen entrusts his life to God even in the face of death, showing the hope Christians have beyond suffering. This session reminded us that Jesus’ suffering shows his deep love for us, that he walks with us in our own suffering and that his victory gives us hope that one day pain and sorrow will come to an end.
Prayers: Please pray for Anthony, Jeff Chambers, Harvey Stansfield, Muriel, Paul Sumner, Maureen Hardman, & Lewis. We also remember the life and family of Russell Oakes whose funeral is due to take place.
