Church of England Diocese of Bristol Christ Church with Emmanuel, Clifton

About Us

Welcome to Christ Church Clifton

We are a ‘Word and Spirit’ Church of England parish church based in Clifton, North West Bristol, part of the Diocese of Bristol and the New Wine Network of churches. Our Mission is to play our part in growing the Kingdom of God in Clifton, Bristol and beyond.

Christ Church is a great place to be – we’re a very diverse group of people who have one thing in common: we’ve met an extravagantly generous God who loves us unconditionally. In Jesus, he’s welcomed and accepted us, made us part of his world-wide family, is healing our brokenness and restoring in us what it means to be truly human. He calls us to be as generous to one another and to our world as he has been to us. The bible calls this culture of generous welcome and unconditional love ‘The Kingdom of God.’

This Kingdom is a place where earth begins to look like heaven, and we want to play our part in seeing it grow in our own lives, in Clifton, Bristol and beyond. We know it’s impossible to achieve this ourselves and so we seek partnership with others who also look for the coming of God’s Kingdom. Above all, we continually pursue a deeper love for, intimacy with, and understanding of Jesus – believing that this is the key to unlocking what is impossible for us.

With so many different people making up our church family, and so many things going on, we’re confident there’s a place for everyone. Please come along and see for yourself, or check out our website for more information.

Worship Gatherings at Christ Church

Each of our Worship Gatherings offers space to pursue the presence of Jesus.

We have three Gatherings each Sunday; 8am, 10am and 5pm. On Wednesdays we have a one hour gathering at 11am.  We enjoy refreshments together after each gathering, and would love for you to join us.

Sundays

Sundays begin at 8am with a contemplative Gathering designed to enable God to meet and speak with us through stillness, music, scripture and liturgy. A talk will always be included, and we aim to have communion each week.     Our main morning Gathering begins at 10am with worship for the whole church family regardless of age.  If you have children under the age of 11, do come right to the front of the church where there is a special space for you.  We then take a break for our children and young people  (aged from 18 months to 14 years) to go to their groups, before continuing with worship, teaching and response where we focus on persuing the presence of Jesus.  We aim to include communion once a month at various points within our time together.   During the school holidays we have shorter all-age services with teaching and worship suitable for everyone - check the calendar for more details.  Refreshments are served from 9:40-9:55am (and you can grab a coffee in the short break when children go to their groups) and at the end.

Our evening Gathering at 5pm is more informal and allows more time and space to pursuing the presence of Jesus in sung worship, teaching and response.  We aim to include communion once a month.

Midweek

Wednesday at 11am Our 11am midweek Gatheringhas a traditional feel with music led by the organ.

Why Gatherings?

We call our collective worship "Gatherings" rather than "Services", as it sets what we do on Sundays and Wednesdays within the context of our lives over the rest of the week. As a church family, we gather in all sorts of ways – small groups, ministry teams, prayer meetings: "church" is the way we live, not simply what happens on one day out of seven.
