Friends Of Godmersham Church
The Friends of Godmersham Church is an independent charity formed expressly to raise funds for the upkeep of St Lawrence Church.
Since 2005 the Friends (nicknamed FOG) have held a variety of events and celebrations within Godmersham, involving the local community but also welcoming in the wider public. The aim is to make money and have fun at the same time.
FOG holds an outdoor event each spring, usually on the Sunday preceding the May Day Bank Holiday, and an indoor event in late September.
Past events in Godmersham Park have included Bluebell Walks; afternoons themed around its Jane Austen associations; country fairs, an Art Exhibition and a Dog Show.
Church events have included lectures on local history and archaeology; the ornithology of the area; a Fashion Show; a John Betjeman evening and an evening remembering our first President, the artist John Ward, CBE.
The Friends of Godmersham Church are also proud to be publishers:
Three Prayers and a Poem by Jane Austen, with illustrations by John Ward, is available in booklet form (£6.50)or bound in handsome red buckram (£25).
Packs of six notelets, using three of the Ward illustrations, are also available (£5).
A DVD of John Ward Remembered has just been issued (£15).
