"Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you should be in agreement and that there should be no divisions among you, but that you should be united in the same mind and the same purpose." (1 Corinthians 1:10)
Ascension Day. “While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them, and was carried up to heaven. And they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the temple blessing God” are the final words in Luke’s gospel. They had plumbed the depths at Jesus’ crucifixion, then been lifted high by seeing him again and his promise that he would return. In nine days’ time, they would experience some of what that meant, with the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. And then would come the plunge into living out the vision of faith in a divided, troubled, multicultural world. The world in which we live, with this call to keep focus on what and Who unites us.
