Daily Scripture

"For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another."  Galatians (5:13)

Daily Reflection

Oh how we all long for freedom at the moment! Though Paul wasn’t writing about the sort of freedom we long for, his warning is quite apt… not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence: don’t treat the easing of restrictions as meaning this is all over and we can go back to the old ways. (There’s a risk of “give them and inch and they’ll take a mile”, and the pandemic gets a hold again and we’ll be in for longer, tougher restrictions.)

Paul is talking about freedom from sin, because sin enslaves us. When free from sin and only thinking of self (being self-indulgent), we are free to do the right thing, to glorify God, and to lovingly serve others. Let’s be quick to have that freedom!
