“Before the mountains were born, or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.” Psalm 90. 2,4
Psalm 90 speaks of a time when the whole community was enduring a period of grief and affliction, and dwells on the brevity and uncertainty of human life. But this is set alongside the unchanging nature of God, the God who created the world, who loves and cares for all his people. God never changes. He is as he always has been, is now, and always will be. This psalm is the inspiration for a very well known hymn, affirming God’s love and care for us, even in adversity. How relevant and comforting to us all in these times!
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be thou our guide while troubles last,
And our eternal home.
