Accessibility

There is an area at the top of the carpark reserved for disabled users which gives access via the path to the accessible entrance to the church.

The accessible entrance is approached from the disabled parking space and has a slight inline. Inside the accessible entrance to the church there is a short ramp down into the main body of the church. From there the whole of the church can be accessed without ramps.

Door widths are wide enough for wheelchair access

We have a large public toilet adapted for accessible use. There is an alarm chord which will sound an alarm in the foyer of the church, however it is not monitored.

Our sound system for services has a hearing loop fitted.

Public parking available 24 hrs

We have available upon request large print hymn books

The changing facilty is located in the accessible toilet.

The public defibrillator is located in the church carpark to the left of the Lych Gate, it is illuminated at night by the outdoor lighting that comes on nearby when movement is detected. You will need to call 999 request an ambulance and quote the code of the defibrillator box to get the access code to the box


Our Building

St. Mary's church is Grade 2 listed and particular reference is made to the beautiful stained glass and carved wooden roof inside church and the frieze behind the altar.

We are fortunate to have many beautiful stained glass windows in our church

We have two public toilets open during the day throughout the year, opening times for summer 9.30am to 4.30pm and in winter 9.30am to 4pm.

We have an unmanned shop on our welcome table with items for sale, they can be paid for via a credit or debit card and cash via a dedicated payment box.


Music and Worship

Our bell ringers usually ring on the Sunday when we have a service and can be heard practising most Friday mornings. We are fortunate to have an array of 6 bells and a dedicated team of ringers.

We do host live music events which will be listed under services and events.

Organ

We have a Benefice Two Valleys Choir which sings on special occasions such as Christmas.

Help for Visitors

During opening hours we have free wi-fi internet access.
The password and domain name is displayed on the wall beside the entrance to the porch from the nave.

We have information about the history of the church displayed on laminated sheets at the rear of church on the welcome table. There are also a number of walks from the church which are stored in a folder on the welcome table. To the left of the welcome table there are QR links and web addresses in frames for our website for the two graveyards which are searchable either by date or name or place of death.

The church is open on a daily basis from 9.30am to 4.30pm in the summer months and 9.30am to 4pm in the winter months.

Generally open every day during daylight hours (until about 4.30pm in the summer months) with a prayer area at the rear of church where it is possible to leave prayers which will be included in our next Sunday service.


Other Features

We use Fairtrade tea and coffee products for our refreshments after services.

We collect food on behalf of the Kings Foodbank, Kendal. The collection box for donations box is beside the font.

We have been awarded the Eco Church Silver Award by A Rocha
