St Mary's, Rydal

A very warm welcome to St Mary's, Rydal

The church was built by Lady le Fleming of Rydal Hall in 1824. William Wordsworth was a churchwarden here around 10 years later. The intimate chapel with a luminous stained glass east window has been treasured ever since.

Come and visit us, as well as nearby Rydal Mount and Rydal Hall, all with beautiful gardens. Walk round Rydal Water and stop for tea at Rydal Hall's teashop. We look forward to welcoming you.

Join us in the beautiful chapel at Rydal Hall for Sunday morning worship. You can expect a traditional service yet with sense of informality and reflection in a special intimate space. We normally share Holy Communion and our music is a mixture of hymns and songs, old and new. Everyone is welcome!

On May 17 the Sunday service will take place at St Oswald's at 9:30am. In Rydal there will be NO Sunday Service this week, and in Grasmere at 11am we will meet for a walk with prayers around Grasmere lake to celebrate Rogation Sunday.
Rogation is a church festival in which we seek blessing for our community and its sustenance. Traditionally parishioners walk the parish boundary, 'beating' the boundary stones with sticks.

Some of our 9.30 Communion services are held in the Chapel at Rydal Hall, just a bit further up the hill. Please come into the hall where the reception staff will direct you to the Chapel.
