Getting here

St Mungo's is a Grade 1 listed building.

Worship on this site probably dates back to before the Norman conquest. Parts of the present building have been here since the early 12th Century, with the West tower being added in the 14th Century. In 1882 the North aisle was built, and during extensive renovation at this time, many important carved stones, some possibly dated as early as the 7th Century were discovered. Some of these, including the Stone Quern and the Adam Stone, are now mounted on the window sills and there are several cross slab grave covers set into the walls. Other items of interest include two crosses: the Kenneth Cross with its history shrouded in legend, and a wheel-headed cross, sometimes referred to as the Viking Cross, stands over five feet tall. The Norman font is elaborately carved, and the Reredos, a finely carved ornamental screen behind the altar, stands below a stained glass window.

As we continue to worship God in this place where so many have brought their praises and prayers before us, we hope you will find a warm a friendly welcome at our services, or peace and tranquility if you seek a place of quiet spiritual refreshment.,

Although we do not have a Sunday School, Youth Group, or Creche, we do have Boys' Brigade (open to boys and girls aged  5 to 19yrs). and a Toddler and Carers' Group

We have close links with Dearham Methodist Church with whom we share worship once a month and also have a joint Home Fellowship. Together we hold a busy weekly Coffee Stop in the village hall which provides a much needed meeting place for all age groups in the local community.
