Children's and youth work at St Luke's is active and engaging, run by a team of enthusiastic volunteers and a member of staff.

1. Children's Work

Our Sunday School caters for children aged 3-10 during the main Sunday morning service. We follow a 3 year rolling curriculum: Old Testament, New Testament, The Trinity that allows children to engage in Bible stories and come to know our loving God and Saviour Jesus Christ. Each week the activities vary through worship, craft, games, baking, and prayer. All activities are age appropriate and led in a manner that children can ask questions and begin to develop their own faith and trust in Jesus.

Each week a team go into 4 local primary schools to present Open the Book assemblies. This nationwide scheme gives schools the opportunity to have the stories of the Bible told to their KS1 students in a fun performance manner. Sometimes with puppets, sometimes costumes and props. All children engage in songs, questions and prayers if they choose to do so.

Currently, we deliver only 1 assembly to a KS2 group but are hoping to expand on this. At Easter, the KS2 of 3 local schools all come to engage in our Easter Project at St Luke's or Campbell Hall. In the past we have presented a detective investigation for them to decide for themselves 'Who Moved the Stone?' An immersive sensory 'Experience Easter' based loosely on the stations of the cross, and, a shortened Passion Play. Staff at the schools all praise these events and the discussions they prompt back at school.

Acorns and Conkers are our babies and toddler groups run on a Tuesday in the main hall. Both groups provide safe, happy places for carers and children to relax, chat and play. Acorns caters for birth to confident walkers with a soft play area, refreshments for the carers and singing. Conkers is for children who are confident at walking to preschool. They engage in free play whilst carers chat and have refreshments. A short Bible story leads the group into an activity of craft, music or games each week.

At various points through the year we provide celebration events for local families: The Light Party - an alternative party to Halloween focusing on light rather than dark; The Easter Experience - a party atmosphere with stations to engage in the true meaning of Easter; Christmas Celebrations include a party, an All Age Nativity and a variety of family appropriate services.

Each summer we run a 3 day Holiday Club for primary children that explores Bible stories and God's love for us through a wide variety of activities such as sport, music, art & games. This culminates in a sharing afternoon for parents. It's a busy, joyful, engaging few days that many children in the local community love.

All of these activities and events make for a vibrant church community for our children and local families.
