These are Lent & Easter events this year.

Ash Wednesday

Occurring
for 30 mins
Venue
St George
Address
Church Road Altrincham, WA14 4TT, United Kingdom

Have you ever wondered why, once a year, Christians are walking around with an Ash Cross on their heads?! It can look a bit odd but actually has some really important symbolism behind it.

It's a time when we remember that although there is much good in all of us, we're not perfect - that none of us are immortal and that we all

make mistakes. It's a chance for us to take time to 'spring clean' ourselves - check our motivations, aspirations, actions and decisions. And we do that in the light of Christ's love and forgiveness.

It can be a really freeing moment.

So if that sounds like what you need, why don't you come and be part of it?

Lent is a six-week season that invites us to slow down, reflect, and create space for what really matters. Some people give something up, others take something on — all with the aim of bettering ourselves and becoming more open to God’s love, forgiveness, and purpose.

This Lent, one gentle way to do that might be to finish the week differently.

Our new, Friday Evening Eucharist is a short, quiet service at the end of the week; a chance to pause, reflect on the week that’s been, and place what’s ahead into God’s hands before the weekend begins. After a busy or demanding week, it's a wonderful way to rest yourself so that you can fully enjoy the weekend.

If you’ve never been to church before, or if it’s been a long time since you last came, please don’t worry. There’s nothing you need to know, say, or do. You’re very welcome to simply come, sit, and be still. Everyone is welcome, exactly as they are.

As the church is gently cleared and lights are dimmed, we are invited to watch, wait, and reflect on the depth of Christ’s love. This is a simple, moving service that leads us into the heart of Holy Week. All are welcome.

Three Hours at the Cross led by The Revd Canon Dr Michael Leyden (BA, MA, MSt, PhD), Dean of Emmanue

Occurring
for 3 hours
Venue
St George
Address
Church Road Altrincham, WA14 4TT, United Kingdom

Join us on Good Friday for the traditional Three Hours at the Cross, a time of prayer, reflection, and silence as we journey through the final hours of Jesus’ life. This year we are honoured to welcome The Revd Canon Dr Michael Leyden (BA, MA, MSt, PhD), Dean of Emmanuel Theological College, as our speaker.

Drawing on his work in character formation, moral leadership, and human agency and responsibility, Dr Leyden will reflect on the searching question:
“What does success look like on Good Friday?”
In a world shaped by power, achievement, and visibility, this addresses the profound paradox of the cross and invites us to consider success through the lens of sacrifice, faithfulness, and love.

You are welcome to stay for all or part of the three hours.

Easter Eve and Bonfire

Occurring
for 13 hours
Venue
St George

Join us on Easter Eve for the ancient and beautiful Vigil as we gather around a bonfire and begin the celebration of Easter. From the lighting of the new fire, we move from darkness into light, retelling the story of God’s saving love and welcoming the joy of the resurrection. This is a reflective yet hopeful service, rich in symbolism and meaning, as we stand on the threshold between the cross and the empty tomb.

We’ll end the evening together around the fire with toasting marshmallows on the bonfire, sharing warmth, conversation, and the first joy of Easter. All ages are welcome — a wonderful moment to experience the Easter story with all the senses.

Easter Day Celebration
