Peace and Quiet in Troubled Times is an opportunity to give ourselves time and space away from the daily tasks, worries and fears which can put our minds in turmoil. We are invited to focus on music, words and pictures and to keep silences in between, to enter an oasis of calm, to engage in ‘mindfulness’.
This month is the Season of Creation, the period in the annual Church calendar dedicated to God as Creator and Sustainer of all life. It is a time when we are called to pay special attention to the responsibility of humankind for the earth and for all that lives upon it. The Season of Creation begins on 1st September – marked as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation – and ends of 4th October – the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, to whom the hymn ‘All creatures of our God and King’ is attributed.
This year’s theme is ‘A Home for All? Renewing
the oikos of God.’ Oikos is the Greek word for ‘home’ or
‘household’. This year’s theme reminds us that, in the words of the Psalmist:
‘the earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world and those who live in
it’ (Psalm 24.1).
