Getting here

St. Cuthbert's Church is a Grade II listed building. There are no longer burials in the churchyard, but there is a new cemetery in Etherley.

St. Cuthbert's is a country parish. It covers an area of 10 square miles and is situated three miles west of Bishop Auckland.

The church is one of a group of 4 churches - The Saxon Church, Escomb (for Escomb and Witton Park); St. Cuthbert's Church, Etherley; St. James’ Church, Hamsterley, and St. Philip and St. James' Church, Witton-le-Wear. We work closely with the other members of the group, but each church has individual features.

Priest in Charge: Revd. Claire Gibbs (currently on sick leave).

Churchwardens: Elizabeth Jude and Pauline Bates

Treasurer: Pauline Bates

Secretary: Elizabeth Jude

Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals can be booked by contacting one of the Churchwardens. (Baptisms usually take place after the Sunday service).

The church supports a number of charities including Christian Aid and the Children’s Society. Donations are taken for Woodhouse Close foodbank in Bishop Auckland.

We collect batteries, stamps, printer cartridges and soft plastics for recycling as part of our commitment to improving the environment. We currently hold an Eco-church Silver Award.
