Corporate volunteering is when a business of any size allows their staff to have a day or more per year to volunteer during normal working hours but still pays their salary.  It  allows staff to get involved in community based activities. Costain Group, responsible for improvement work to widen the A1 dual  carriageway from Birtley to the Coal House roundabout,  supports its staff through the Costain Voluntary  Policy.  Volunteers are currently helping friends and members of St Andrew's Church Lamesley tidy up the overgrown graveyard,  making it more accessible to the public and allowing wildlife to flourish.
