About Us

Our parish is St Nicholas with Christ Church, Dunston reflecting a time when there were indeed two churches. Christ Church is unfortunately no longer standing and so the relatively modern church of St. Nicholas' serves the community. Built in the mid 1960s it is light and airy.

We are part of the Gateshead West Deanery, the Archdeaconry of Sunderland and the Diocese of Durham. The southern boundary of the parish is the River Tyne and we have the A1 running through as well as a train line with our own Station.

The church is on Ellison Road (on the same side as the war memorial) and there are regular bus services, with bus stops conveniently located. Our Vicar is Rev'd David Atkinson and Ann Smith is our lay reader.

We have a Sunday School every Sunday during the Communion Service with the exception of the first Sunday in the month which is a Family Service and the children are very much part of that service.

We have a charity shop which is popular within the community and runs from part of the church hall. St Nics and Knacks is open 10-4 Wednesday to Friday and 10-12 on a Saturday.

We are a popular venue for Weddings and hold Baptism services twice a month. To arrange either please call into the Intervews held on a Monday evening.
