About Us

St Jude's was built in 1886 to serve the area of Rekendyke. Over the years it has expanded its 'patch' with the closure and amalgamation of other local churches - St Mary's Tyne Dock, Holy Trinity Laygate, St Francis on South Eldon St and St Mark's just across the road. This means that we are now the parish church for all the sweep of the river from the Customs House to the Port of Tyne roundabout, and from the river to Aldi and Chi, Stanhope Road to Lord Nelson St.

Services are mostly quite traditional to fit in with the beauty of this heritage building, but we are a welcoming community for anyone and everyone. We are a small but friendly congregation who come together for worship, fellowship and discipleship. You are welcome to join us wherever you come from and whomever you love, we are proud to be an inclusive church and we are also accessible for those needing a hearing loop or ramped entrances. Support dogs are welcome too (all dogs actually!) 

We work closely together with a team of other Anglican churches locally and also host Ukrainian Orthodox worship one Saturday a month.

Our adjacent Parish Hall, in addition to being used by the church for social occasions, fundraising events, is also available for community use.

Everything we do is underpinned by an absolute commitment to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.
