There will be no 10.30 a.m. service on Sunday 29th June 2025. This is because Katherine Cooper-Young is being ordained deacon at Durham Cathedral on this day, before joining us as curate. As her 'training incumbent' Revd Andrew Dowsett will be taking part in the service at the Cathedral, and many of our congregation will also be there to witness this significant moment in Katherine's life and in the life of our church. We will be welcoming Katherine, and her son Arlo, at our services on 6th July. There will be a bring-and-share lunch after the 10.30 a.m. service that day, as an opportunity to meet them.
Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, the season of self-examination in preparation to celebrate Easter. Easter moves with cycles of the moon, and this year falls on 20th April, with Ash Wednesday falling on 5th March. On Ash Wednesday we receive the mark of the cross, in ash and oil, on our foreheads as a reminder of our mortality and God's deep love for us. Our service of Holy Communion, with the Imposition of Ashes, will take place at 7.00 p.m.There will also be the opportunity to be 'ashed' at the Warm Welcome Space (10.30 a.m.-12.30 p.m.) earlier in the day.
