At our 8.00 a.m. Holy Communion, we use the traditional-language form of service found in the Book of Common Prayer. This is a 'said' service, with no music or hymns.
At our 10.30 a.m. service, lasting about an-hour-and-a-quarter, we use the contemporary-language form of services found in Common Worship. This is the service with the largest congregation. On the first, third, and fourth Sunday of the month this is a service of Holy Communion (also known as the Eucharist, Breaking of Bread, or Mass). On the second and fifth Sundays, our service is one of Morning Prayer (Communion is still available on these Sundays, at 8.00 a.m. only). We sing hymns, hear a sermon and think about how we might respond, and pray for our parish and the world. At present there are no children's groups, but children of all ages are welcomed. Refreshments are served after the service, in the church hall.
Join us for our Harvest Festival at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday 1st October 2023, as we give thanks for God's good provision and think about how we might live more simply, so that all have what they need to live.
This will be a service of Holy Communion, at which our uniformed organisations will be taking part. We will be receiving donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, etc. in support of the local food bank, which is run by our friends at Elim Pentecostal Church just along the A690 towards the city centre. These gifts will be brought forward at the start of our service. There will also be a cash collection taken up during the service. Please stay on for refreshments, served following the service.
Our winter warming soup lunches are back. Saturday 7th October and Saturday 18th November at 12.30 p.m. in the Haver Hall. All welcome. £5/head including a choice of soup, bread, tea/coffee and home-made cakes - an offer not to be missed.
Care & Share is our monthly lunch for those who are vulnerably housed in our community.
12.30 p.m. - 2.00 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month.
Messy Church at St Nicholas takes place once a month (as advertised, usually on the third or fourth Sunday afternoon) 3.00 p.m. - 5.00 p.m.
Messy Church is for everyone, but in particular for families of Primary school-aged children. We enjoy crafts and activities relating to a story from the Bible, have fun together, pray together, and end with sharing a picnic.
