St Peter's Newsletter for February 2024

Dear Friends,

My thanks to Margaret Smith who prepared some lovely craft on a Valentine’s theme for last month’s Forest Church and to Jane Day who spoilt us all with hot chocolate, marshmallows and cream! My thanks also to Sarah Penrose and her family for preparing some lovely prayers and to Louise Bowes for doing the beautiful publicity visuals.

A sumptuous Afternoon Tea was enjoyed by all at the Village Hall and raised funds for St Peter’s and Besom. My grateful thanks to Ruth Bond and her team for this special event.

It was great to have a group from Barton at the service of Ashing to start Lent. The Village Lent Group Course continues to run on Wednesdays at the Baptist Church at 7.30-9pm starting on 21st Feb for 5 weeks. The course will be “Christ and the Chocolaterie” by Hilary Brand. Do come and join us for some of the evenings.

On Sunday 3rd March Revd Corin will be with you for 9.30am Communion and Louise Bowes and I will be leading Forest Church at 3pm in the afternoon. Crafts will include card making for Mothering Sunday and making cute stress balls for Mums and Dad and children.

On Sunday 10th March Ruth Bond will be leading a Mothering Day Service, with flowers distributed during the service.

On Sunday 17th March I shall be with you for the 9.30 service of Holy Communion.

On Sunday 24th March there is a Village Palm Sunday Service led by Anne Coulson and Sally Daggianti
at the Baptist Church at 10am.

During Holy Week I will be with you for an 11am Good Friday Service with Stations of the Cross and Taize Chants between stations. I shall be going in to school over the next few weeks to coach the children on this and a song for Easter Sunday. Other services on Good Friday include 1pm meditation at Coton, a walk of witness at 2.30pm at All Saints Haslingfield, going to Harlton Church for a 3pm Stations of the Cross.

The Maundy Thursday Service of Communion this year is in the Chancel at All Saints Haslingfield at 7pm and there will be an Easter Eve Service of Light and Easter Communion with firepit and candles at 8pm Saturday 30th March also in Haslingfield church.

On Easter Sunday here in Barton, Revd. Corin and I will be with you for a 9.30am Communion Service, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt.

The usual Wednesday morning school services continue most Wednesdays in church. Monday Morning Prayer continues at 9.15am in the church. Everyone welcome.

Please hold Lottie and Florence in your prayers as they prepare for their confirmation and baptism at Ely Cathedral this month.

With love and thanks for all you do,
Claire
