About Us

St Margaret's Church, dedicated to St Margaret of Antioch, is a medieval Grade II* listed church in the centre of the village of Wereham. The village is situated on the A134 about 5 miles from Downham Market, and has a population of about 600. Large parts of it have conservation status. The church faces the village pond, in which parishioners are permitted to fish.

St Margaret's has recently been extensively repaired and renovated, and a new heating system has been installed, much to the relief of the small but dedicated congregation.  The church is much loved and supported by the villagers generally, who rally around to help and support fundraising events. The main fundraising event of the year is the Church Festival, which takes place on the Sunday nearest the feast day of St Margaret of Antioch (20th July).

The graveyard is no longer open for burials. There are some ancient memorials remaining, including a grave protected by chains against grave robbers.
