St John the Baptist, Harescombe

Harescombe is a small village, and stretches steeply down from the Cotswold edge. The parish church is situated in the lower end of the parish; The Ecclesiastical Parish is of Harescombe with Brookthorpe, formed some years ago when St Swithun’s Church Brookthorpe was closed for regular worship. The PCC is made up from regular worshippers who live in either Harescombe or Brookthorpe. The church may only have a small regular congregation but its importance to the community can be measured by the fact that all important occasions will see the small church filled to capacity. In a community where three families have been farming the area since the mid nineteenth century we have been happy to embrace the new services introduced within our liturgy.

Address

All are welcome to celebrate with us as we mark Jesus’s bodily ascension to heaven at this special service and begin to pray with earnest for the Holy Spirit to move in our communities. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the global prayer movement called Thy Kingdom Come. Across the world, the nine days after Ascension Day (until the eve of Pentecost) will be observed as days of prayer and preparation for the celebration of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the ‘birth’ of Christ’s church. During this time, here in our benefice we will be joining in with this wave of prayer – so come along to our Ascension Day service to find out more. Meanwhile, please also save the date of Tuesday 19th May when we will gather at St Mary's, Painswick at 7pm for a time of dedicated praise and prayer for 'Thy Kingdom Come'.
