The Wise still seek him

Happy New Year to you all. A huge thank you for all of your gifts, cards and prayers over the Christmas period. The Todds are very grateful and deeply touched!

As we begin 2024 together and think about those who followed a guiding star to find Jesus, the words of Isaiah 60 are especially exciting. I find it amazing that so many years before Jesus’ birth, the prophet Isaiah calls all to seek the Messiah, God with us, the ultimate source of hope and light. The wise men responded to that call—and now it is our turn.

Isaiah's words remind us to lift our eyes toward the source of true light and hope, Jesus. Despite the darkness that may surround us, the glory of the Lord rises upon us, illuminating our paths and hearts with divine love and grace. I wrote before Christmas of the awesomeness of the manger, so humble and unassuming, yet holding the essence of this radiant hope. Epiphany brings perfect clarity; in the simplicity of Christ's birth lies the promise of redemption, renewal, and the transformation of our world's challenges into opportunities for God’s glory to shine.

The difficulties of our world may seem overwhelming, but as we seek Jesus in the manner of the wise men, we discover that the manger—though seemingly small—holds immeasurable hope. Isaiah promises that "Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn." Let’s pray for the faith to hold onto that promise and too for that promise to begin with us.

In this new year, may we become bearers of Christ's light, drawing others through our lives towards the hope and peace found in His presence. Let us stand firm in faith, knowing that in seeking Jesus, we become instruments of His light, drawing people from every corner of the earth towards the warmth of His love.

As we journey through this new year, may the light of Christ guide us, strengthen us, and empower us, our churches and out city to be beacons of hope, love and witness. Happy Epiphany, and may the glory of the Lord continue to rise upon us in 2024 and beyond!
