About Us

The United Church of St Michael, Cheltenham has grown into an open and inclusive church community since becoming an ecumenical partnership between the Anglican and the Methodist church in 1996.

 Supporting the local community has always been a priority at St Michael’s and this is shown in our logo ‘Living with Christ; living with community’.

This commitment to the local community led to replacing the old 1930’s church hall with a modern community centre, Cornerstone, which was officially opened in 2003.  The church is always accessible for prayer during Cornerstone’s opening hours.  As well as the main church building there is a small chapel at the back of church which is available for prayer.

The Cornerstone Centre is used for a variety of community events, as well as hosting its own regular activities. Also the Centre is hired by members of the local community for their own events.  Church led community events include fayres, lunches and coffee mornings which raise funds for various charities. Church affiliated Rainbows, Brownies and Guides also meet in Cornerstone.

Come Holy Spirit, and visit your people;

light in us the fire of your love,

and bring to new life all the gifts you have planted in us.

Strengthen the hands of all who serve you;

make our worship more worthy,

our witness more effective and our lives more committed.

We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

This prayer was written for the 25th anniversary of the opening of the current church building.
