St. James the Great, Marston Sicca (Long Marston)

St James The Great dates back to the 13th Century and still remains the most prominent building in the village of Long Marston which today has a population of around  400  whilst we are proud of our heritage and are careful to preserve what is good from the past we are a forward thinking community and are on the road to making our vision for the future a reality, this has involved changes to the chancel seating,  the creation of a kitchen area in the vestry, making a children welcome area and ensuring that the church is open every day for people to visit and pray .

We have 3 services a month providing a mixture of Holy Communion and Family Worship with coffee served in the church for all after the family services, the hymns and music is integral to our worship and this is provided by organists and from an IPOD.   The special services at Christmas, Easter and Harvest are well supported by the village as whole with children encouraged to take part.

The PCC works in harmony with the jobs being shared out and everyone supporting each other, money has been raised mainly from events, for improvements including a heating system but more needs to be done on the stewardship side.

We have links with churches and Christian work overseas, and ensure we give donations to help with their work, and other charities.

The village of Long Marston has a successful Community Shop run by volunteers which is now in its 14th Year this is the hub of the village during the week, and a Village Hall that is home to a variety of activities and meetings including WI, Keep Fit, Line Dancing and a Women’s Group, it also hosts The Harvest Supper each year.
