St. Giles is one of the four parishes in the Upper Churn. It is situated in beautiful Cotswold countryside, within easy reach of Cheltenham, Gloucester and Cirencester with good motorway connections. Several long-distance walks, including the Cotswold Way, pass through the parish, attracting many visitors. There has been a church on the site since Norman times, and it has a long, interesting history, although the main body of the Church was rebuilt in the 19th Century. It is the largest of the four churches in the Upper Churn - seating a maximum of 140. The parish covers a large area, it has a broadly mixed social profile, with agriculture predominating. There is a flourishing primary C of E School (LEA controlled) in the village, which participates in church festivals. One of the Associate Priests is a governor; he visits the school regularly, and with other members of the PCC, involves the pupils in “Open the Book” which is well received. The National Star College for Disabled Youth, and “Hop, Skip and Jump”, a respite day centre for children with special needs, (visited in 2013 by the Archbishop of Canterbury when in the Diocese), both lie within the parish. The only communal building, apart from the church, is the school. Parish council meetings are held there, and the church makes use of the school buildings and playing field for the annual fete in August.
