ORDINARY TIME

This time is anything but ordinary! In the church’s year, which is from Advent Sunday to Christ the King on the last Sunday before Advent, there are two periods known as Ordinary Time. The first is the period from the day after the Presentation of Christ in the Temple in February until the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. The second period is that between the day after Pentecost until the day before Advent Sunday. The liturgical colour is green signifying life and growth in God.

Although there are a few saint’s days and other commemorations during this time, it is essentially an opportunity to reflect upon the Christian life of faith in the every-day – living out the life and love of Christ wherever we find ourselves.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Your support makes a real difference to the ministry and mission of Guildford Cathedral. Thanks to your gifts of time and money we’re proud to open our doors for free, 365 days a year, meeting the needs of both pilgrim and visitor. If you would like to support our work, if you are a member of one of our congregations and have not already done so, please consider joining our Planned Giving Scheme via the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) and set up a regular donation by direct debit. Threads through Creation

Saturday 10 September to Sunday 16 October 2022

We are very pleased to welcome back Jacqui Parkinson’s work at this new exhibition entitled Threads through Creation. This exhibition is a spectacular sequence of 12 huge textile panels. Jacqui retells the creation story in the first pages of the Bible in stunning scenes and images. The exhibition is one of the largest projects by a single artist, ever. It has taken Jacqui two years to complete. It is the follow up exhibition from the highly acclaimed Threads through Revelation, her first huge exhibition which visited 14 cathedrals including Guildford Cathedral and was seen by more than 500,000 visitors.

This exhibition is free to visit. A book, guidebook and postcards available to purchase.

Saturday 24 September, 2pm – 6pm

Our music department are pleased to bring back their extremely popular ‘Be a Chorister for the day!’ event. It is a great opportunity for boys and girls to experience the thrills of singing and being part of the Cathedral Choir.

The afternoon includes:

• Learn some new music
• Sing a service with Guildford Cathedral Choir
• Fun and Games
• A tour of the Cathedral
• Tea

The event is run by our Organist and Master of the Choristers, Katherine Dienes-Williams and will provide the children with a great insight as to what life is like for a chorister at the Cathedral.

Do you know a child aged 6-8 years who loves to sing | Sign Up Here https://www.guildford-cathedral.org/events/be-a-chorister-for-a-day

All children must be accompanied by an adult.
