During last night’s Dementia Awareness session (20 March 2023) organised for the Benefice, All Saints Church presented a cheque, as part of its quarterly charity giving, to the “Togetherness Singing Group” – a local group run voluntarily by senior mental health nurse, Mrs Tracey Goudthorp, for those with dementia and their carers/families. The group has been running since 2015, and now meets at the Ashby Hub every other Tuesday at 6 pm, everyone is welcome. Mrs Gouldthorp highlighted during her talk how music can have a positive effect on people's mood and well-being. > Mrs Gouldthorp thanked All Saints Church for their kind donation, and said it would help tremendously in funding the group.
Yesterday evening (20 March 2023) over 20 people gathered from the two churches and beyond, for a Dementia Awareness evening, Senior Mental Health Nurse Mrs Tracey Gouldthorp gave an insight into dementia, the different types, the current treatments and how as individuals and as churches we can recognise the syndrome and support those individuals and their carers, as well as signposting organisations who are able to help. There was an opportunity to ask questions both in the meeting and afterwards. Some comments from those attending were, “I never knew that”, “I hadn’t realised that emotions stay with people when they have forgotten what had happened”, “we must remember the carers, they have it tough”, “love is a very strong bond, for those who care” The evening ended with a series of thanks to Mrs Gouldthorp, and All Saints Church presented a cheque for the work of the “Togetherness Singing Group”, a group which meets every other Tuesday at the Ashby Hub at 6 pm. A singing group for those with dementia and their carers/families.
