Getting here

St Paul's stands firmly in the AngloCatholic tradition of the Church of England, loving God and serving the community in the name and for the sake of Jesus, who came "not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

The building is at the centre of the 1950s housing estate and serves as church, hall and community centre.
One third is permanently screened as church, seating up to sixty people. The screens can be folded back when extra seating is needed, for funerals, weddings or festival services.

In the part of the building that we use as the hall, there is a wide range of activities. An "Age Integration" programme run jointly with Croxteth Community Council involves volunteers in providing social support for elderly residents. Local voluntary groups and tenants associations, including Croxteth Community Federation, hold meetings and events in the hall. Every week, a Craft club, a "drop-in" tea and toast morning, and several social gatherings take place. Once a month there is a lunchtime party, when fifty older people (sometimes with younger members of their family,or carers) enjoy a freshly cooked meal followed by live entertainment. Our congregation may be small in numbers but members of the congregation are actively involved in a number of community organisations.

Our building is in much need of significant maintenance work and upgrading so that it can continue to provide a place of worship and community life in this part of Croxteth.

The children of Croxteth are an important part of parish life. We are currently trying to review and relaunch our Sunday School. The children join us for the first part of the service, then go into the hall for their activities and instruction, returning at the Offertory so that they can come to the Altar to be blessed at the distribution of Communion.

St Paul's is registered as a Forward in Faith parish in the pastoral care of the Bishop of Beverley as part of The Society under the patronage of St Wilfrid & St Hilda. Our Bishop, Glyn Webster, was consecrated in York Minster on 25th January 2013. He will visit the parish to administer the sacrament of Confirmation when we have candidates, and in Holy Week each year will bless the Oils that we use in Baptism and for the anointing of the sick and dying. In January 2016 Fr Ray Bridson, the interim Priest in Charge, was appointed by Bishop Glyn as his Representative in the Diocese of Liverpool. He is also the Dean of the group of clergy, which meets as the Chapter of the Transfiguration, who uphold the traditional understanding of Holy Orders in the Church of England and look to Bishop Glyn for pastoral care.

We are always delighted to welcome visitors or new members to any of our services or activities,There is usually a cup of tea after services or, on special occasions, a buffet or meal and some stronger drinks!!
