🙏St Francis of Assisi, born in the 12th century, is remembered for his deep love of creation🌻, his care for the poor💖, and his timeless message of peace and simplicity. He saw all living things as brothers and sisters under God’s care — from the birds of the air 🐦to the flowers of the field 🌸.
🌍Rector Sue will take us on a journey through the places she visited in Assisi and explore how St Francis’ spirit of harmony with nature continues to speak to us today 🌞🍃.
☕ There will also be tea, coffee, and a small raffle 🎟️
All are warmly welcome — come and share in an evening of reflection, beauty, and hope 💫💒.

The Parish Church of St Thomas, Lydiate and Downholland

St Thomas’ stands at the heart of Lydiate, serving the parish faithfully for over 180 years. Built between 1839 and 1841 to meet the needs of the growing rural community, the church originally reflected the simple, dignified style of early Victorian parish churches.

In 1912, the building was thoughtfully enlarged with the addition of a chancel, south chapel, and vestry, creating the welcoming space you see today. Constructed of local sandstone with a traditional slate roof, St Thomas’ has long been a familiar landmark for those travelling through the village.

Generations have gathered here to worship, celebrate, and mark life’s milestones. Baptisms, weddings, and community events have woven the church into the fabric of parish life. Our connection with local schools and community groups continues that tradition of service and welcome.

Today, while cherishing our heritage, we remain a living, active congregation — committed to sharing the hope of the Gospel in ways that speak to our own time. Whether you join us for Sunday worship, a seasonal celebration, or a quiet moment of reflection, you will be part of a story that began nearly two centuries ago and continues to be written by all who enter our doors.
