St Oswald's

St Oswald's is a friendly church and we would love to welcome you. The church building stands at the centre of the village of Winwick on raised ground, welcoming all who pass through. There is evidence that the Christian faith has been here for over 1,000 years and continues today. The Church building is mentioned in the Domesday Book and the church is an integral part of the area's history and community.

On the 29/02/2024, Reverend Martin Cox was appointed Priest-in-Charge at St. Oswald’s Church, Winwick, plus Rector of Christ Church, Croft and Newchurch Parish Church, Culcheth.

In 2025, St. Oswald’s Church along with 10 other churches in the Winwick Deanery voted to opt in for Fit for Mission. (FfM) This means working together will free up time and resources to grow the faith in the community and help to make churches more sustainable in the future.

Reverend Martin Cox was the Area Dean in Winwick Deanery from 2024. In 2026 he took on the position of Change Lead for the preparation of the Larger Single Parish.

On 1st February 2026, Winwick Deanery launched the “acting as if” phase for FfM. Please click on the link below, which takes you to our recently launched Winwick Deanery website for the latest update on how we are progressing:
